Longines Comet ref 8475

Logines Comet reference 8475.
Mystery dials are a rather rare form of watchmaking designed to hide exactly how they work. The concept usually is that the hands are mounted in a way that makes them appear to float, the hours were indicated by a large central arrow, while an orbiting dot (the Comet) indicated the minutes. They were mounted on colored discs alternating between the hour and minute tracks, hence the floating appearance, all set in a 40 mm steel cushion case .
The movement inside is the Longines 702. The movement itself is a basic in-house caliber, but to which some extra wheels have been added to spin those discs.
The late 1960s and 1970s was a time when the watch world as a whole really tested the limits of design, of what a watch could be and what it could look like, not just what it could do.
The Longines Comet was also available in black, green, yellow, burgundy and blue.
This watch came standard with a leather strap.
The steel bracelet was an optional extra for a fee.
In conclusion, the Longines Comet is not just a watch; it is a testament to the creativity and innovation that can emerge from the world of watchmaking. Its distinctive design, vibrant dials and intriguing time display mechanism make it a real gem for collectors who value both form and function in their watches.
