The main difference between the Rolex Sea-Dweller and the Submariner is that the Sea-Dweller offers greater water resistance and a helium escape valve, which allows trapped helium molecules to safely escape from the case without damaging the watch. In 1977 I sdw 1665 changed its look and abandoned the dials dubbed double red lettering for dials with white graphics. The common feature of all white graphics variants is that they lost the “submariner 2000” inscription.

Again, several graphic variants distinguished by small differences in printing are produced. In this thing we find the MK4 graphic, mounted from serial 7.014.9xx until the end of production 8.1x.xxx (1983). Manufacturer Lemrich & Cie. The glass used on reference 1665 is Tropic 39. The most domed plexi glass there is. The pronounced doming finds its reason in the greater resistance to water pressure than a flat glass. Rolex ends production of reference 1665 around serial 8.1xx.xxx, in 1983. Try a Sea Dweller 1665 on your wrist and you will realize that the “BASIC” set-up of a Submariner will no longer satisfy you.
