Introduced in 1976, the “Big Block” chronograph was the first automatic chronograph made by the Rolex/Tudor family.
The automatic movement led Tudor to have to use a thicker case, which earned the watch its nickname “Big Block.”
The Tudor Big Block Chronograph Ref 79180 features a 40 mm steel case with a hesalite (plexy) crystal. Powered by a Valjoux 7750 automatic movement, the 79180 features a dial with three subdials at 6, 9 and 12 o’clock, as well as a date window at 3 o’clock. The fixed bezel is steel, engraved with a tachymeter scale.

There are also other versions that change references because the bezel changes:
79160 – black plastic tachymeter bezel
79170 – Bidirectional graduated 12-hour bezel in black
79180 – Steel tachymeter bezel

This Tudor Big Block Chronograph ref 79180 is in exceptional condition, serial number B6xxxxx, which dates this watch to the 1995 production year, which was the last year of production for this reference.
