Taken from the French word "Serti" which means set, or rather "studded" in the context of jewelry making, Rolex uses the term "Serti" to indicate any of its gemstone dials, whether it be Datejust, President, Pearlmaster or others.
However, when used among Rolex collectors and enthusiasts, the Serti label is normally reserved for the Submariner and GMT-Master II dials.
The Serti dial features eight diamond indices combined with three sapphire indices for the Submariner models and three ruby indices for the GMT-Master II.
In the Submariners it is available in silver and champagne versions in references 16613 steel and gold and in the gold model (ref. 16618) from 1981 to all of 2008.
The very first models were fitted with very clear sapphires on this dial which showed the movement and the date disc.
This watch was sold by Gioiellery Tesorini, a Rolex dealer inside the Bellagio casino, one of the most renowned casinos in Las Vegas.
The code on the American warranty describes the Slate Serti dial literally (set in slate).
